The New Heights Mentoring Program
We at the Crossings Church Innerbelt base our beliefs and actions on that of the Bible’s teachings. One important teaching is from Luke 18:16, which says “Jesus called the children to him and said, ‘Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.’” We know just how important the childhood stages of one’s life are. We strive to create an environment that helps children from all over the community grow spiritually and emotionally. We help make this happen through the New Heights Mentoring Program. The New Heights Program pairs children with mentors who pour time, energy, resources, and love into them.
All of our volunteers are led by Aldo and Eliza Sidartawan. The Sidartawan’s have been happily serving the New Heights Ministry for over five years. Our volunteers attend meetings and trainings to equip them to mentor the children and better the ministry. All the volunteers must pass background checks before being a part of the ministry. Most importantly, each volunteer is devoted to their relationship with Christ and instilling that into the children they mentor.
What We Do
The ministry serves children grades kindergarten through fifth grade. Mentors are placed with a child through prayerful consideration. Our volunteers act as big brothers and sisters to the child they are mentoring. They bring their little brother or sister to church each week, participate with them in our ministry outings and events, as well as giving them individual attention and guidance weekly. Our volunteer’s mission is to help each child grow spiritually by making sure they get to attend church, guiding them biblically and lovingly on issues that may be faced at home, school, or otherwise, and lead the children by living a Christ-like example.
Each child has a mentor to help them grow in their specific needs. We also, monthly, have events to connect the children and volunteers all together. We go on two camp outs each year. We teach from a young age to give back and serve, so we participate in different community service projects. We take the kids bowling, to parks, lunches, inviting for church events, and more. Our hope and prayer is that through purposeful time spent and Godly love given, these children will have a life long love for Christ and his people.
Park Clean Ups
We as a church, believe in Acts 17:26, that “God decided when and where we must live.” We know that we have been placed in this area and community for a specific reason and we are grateful for that. So to give back to the area our church is in, we look for ways to give back and serve it. We are connected specifically with the City of Olivette and participate in park clean ups throughout the year. We have worked to make parks look better, be safer, and more environmentally sound. If you would like to participate in a park clean up, please contact Ben Mullins at (636) 439-9577.
